We just started homeschooling in January when I pulled 2 of my 5 out of public school. We had a great experience! Come the end of the school year, my oldest 2 (will be 8th & 9th grade in the fall) asked to homeschool for the next school year. I was both elated and petrified. I’d finally wrapped my head around homeschool high school, planned out the foundation our coming year and purchased all our GR units during the July sale. Today, a letter came in the mail for my high schooler, with her itinerary/courses, etc. She came to me in tears saying she isn’t sure about homeschooling anymore. She’s thinking she’d like to try public school for the first semester and then switch to homeschool if she doesn’t like it. We chatted and I tried to be super respectful and validating, but I’m heart broken and don’t know how to proceed. I’ve told her we still have some time to decide (we have at least till the end of August). So, I’m thinking of just including her in finalizing plans for next year. Maybe her doing some of the research into extra curricular’s/programs, social groups/clubs and in speaking with some post-secondary institutions (so she feels assured that she can still go that direction). Any other ideas?
