Sweden holds a special place in my heart. My great great grandparents immigrated to the United States between 1860 and 1870. My maiden name is Rosene. My great grandfather added the "e" to the end of Rosen to afford more opportunities because Rosen was assumed to be a Jewish name and he was often turned away. I grew up with Swedish Christmas decorations, a Swedish family Bible that has been passed down and some delicious Swedish foods that are staples at our Christmas table. For our lesson we ate Pepparkakor and some peppermint candy. Then for dinner we had Swedish Christmas Rice (my families recipe) and authentic Swedish Meatballs (with a side of Lingon berries) another family recipe (and not served over noodles the way it is often done in the US. One day I hope to travel to the land of my ancestors.
