After a couple days of melt downs my 8 year old is putting forth a pretty good attitude towards his copy work, and ‘hands in’ a great looking paper! He is really taking his time to make his handwriting look nice, I just love it! The problem.... I’m 90% sure he is copying letter for letter and not even reading what he is writing and therefore gaining no spelling benefits. So do I just let it slide for now, to encourage his good attitude toward to effort? Maybe I could just read through it with him a few times before he starts? Any suggestions on how to encourage him to read / spell what he is copying without being discouraging?
