Hey all! Two questions... 1. We started with GR when it first launched and were using the pre-reader for our two youngest and early elementary for our two oldest. Our two younger kiddos kept up reasonably well during the lessons but because of some learning struggles, one has retained nearly zero info (we are on year three of the alphabet...pray for my patience, ladies). We will now be doing a learning split in three ways: one with Letters and Numbers, one doing Learning to Read, and two moving through the regular units. I am feeling quite overwhelmed and worn thin. We have a lot of special needs going on so keeping the pairs busy while the others learn will be a challenge. Then there’s still math to get done, science experiments, art projects and just typing that all out has me concerned. We really enjoyed learning as a group however, I am thrilled for the new approach from a learning perspective because I know it will greatly benefit our younger two. Just...sigh....I need a few more arms and eyes at minimum! After that long-winded history, here’s my question: How are other big families finding a balance? Has it become overwhelming to teach several different units each day? Have you found a way to include your younger kiddos without introducing information overwhelm? 2. The much easier question! Has anybody done a year two unit before completing year one? My big guys would really like to do the inventions unit but we take our units sloooooowwww and aren’t even halfway through year one yet. We aren’t doing the units in order of publication, but I do wonder if jumping into year two before year one is done has some cons that I haven’t considered. Your insight is so appreciated!
